E.R. Hinman & Sons, Inc., has a proud history nestled in its Burlington perch at the gateway of northwestern Connecticut dating back to when the lumbermill was established in 1830 by the Hinman family. Many of the homes, commercial and public structures in Burlington and surrounding towns still standing today are built with lumber sewn at the Hinman mill. Taking a page out of recycling “what’s old is new again,” the company is tying the craftsmanship and techniques of yesteryear and marrying that process to today’s growing emphasis on sustainability. Getting back to nature is at the core of E.R. Hinman’s commitment to responsible stewardship.

E.R. Hinman & Sons, Inc. is one of the oldest sawmills in continuous operation in New England. Founded in 1830, E.R. Hinman & Sons provides forestry services and lumber mill products to wholesale and retail customers.
We primarily work with native lumber but rare and exotic woods are available for mill work. Customers are received at our showroom at 77 Milford Street in Burlington, Connecticut – Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Each log in our vast inventory has a unique story to tell, a byproduct of the raw beauty of each piece of wood we carry. No two pieces in our inventory are exactly alike. With the right base, our slabs haven found a home in a variety of decors, from rustic cabin to ultra modern style.

One-Stop Timber Framing Resource
At E.R. Hinman & Sons, we are experts specializing in timber framing and can provide timber frame construction services to consumers directly or to general contractors building their clients’ homes.
With either approach, we work closely with the client to ensure that construction proceeds smoothly. We encourage our clients to work with our team directly or hire an experienced architect and general contractor and come to us with your plans.
Our goal is to ensure optimum design integrity and construction quality.

The ER Hinman & Son’s mill Headquarters in Burlington was built with native Connecticut lumber in a timber frame construction format. The large posts and beams of the structure were carefully fitted and joined with large wooden pegs. No nails were used in the construction. Our expansive showroom is home to the custom furniture products milled in our wood shop.
